Luke Mellor has been with the Men In Black since stepping up from the junior ranks at the end of 2011. Since then the rangy Salopian has developed into a solid rouleur and a key member of the stage race squad.
The son of Shropshire’s legendary ‘ginger catalyst’ Dave Mellor, Luke is a former national cyclo-cross series winner, but has proved equally adept on the road, taking his first win for the team in March 2013 and winning the Stafford GP ahead of his teammate Ed Clancy in 2014.
In 2015 Mellor will be hoping to achieve his personal ambitions in stage races as well as working for other members of Condor JLT throughout the season.
Favourite Food: Apple crumble.
Training area: Shropshire.
If you weren’t a cyclist you’d be: Mad scientist! Nah I don’t know really, science really interested me at college. I’d of probably gone to university and see where it took me.
Favourite climb: The Burway, a brutal local climb but the view at the top is worth the effort.
First cycling memory: Riding round the garden on my bike which had this space station paint job pretending I was exploring space’s outer reaches.
When you are warming up you listen to: Something with a good rhythm. Caribou and Drenge are personal favourites for a warm up.
If you were stuck in a lift with anyone who would it be with: David Lynch, his film and TV shows are really out there and have blown me away. I’d use the time to get answers to questions I have about Twin Peaks.
What’s your favourite travel destination? Iceland. Beautiful scenery, fascinating culture and damn good food make it an awesome place.
