Steve Lampier was awarded the combativity jersey following a brave solo effort on the queen stage of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour.
Take a look at how the race unfolded.
Lampier was part of an eight man group who escaped on the 174km stage to Falls Creek.
Onto the 30km climb to the finish the breakaway group was reduced to four. At 14km to go Lampier decided to go it alone and attacked the reminder of the breakaway riding solo on the steepest part of the climb.
Team Sky’s Elissonde and Orica GreenEdge Howson attacked from the chasing peloton bridging to Lampier.
Lampier continued with trio but the toll of the all day breakaway versus the relatively fresh legs of Elissonde and Howson was evident when Howson attacked at 8km to go. Lampier lost touch with the duo.
The JLT Condor man was then stuck in the middle of the two leaders and a 15-man chasing bunch. He was soon caught by Froome and the chasing group which contained Ian Bibby and Edmund Bradbury. Up front Orica-GreenEdge’s Howson took the stage win.
Chris Froome finished in 6th with Ian Bibby and Edmund Bradbury in 12th and 13th respectively.
