19-year-old Chris Lawless again proved to himself as a hot sprint talent after taking victory in the MR PORTER London Nocturne on Saturday night.
Lawless won the 10th anniversary race, originally set up by our founding sponsor Condor and clothing brand Rapha back in 1996.
Beneath the shadow of the St. Pauls, Lawless and his ‘Men in Black’ animated the race from the start and the high tempo caused an early split.
As darkness fell on the capital, Chris Lawless and Team Wiggins rider, Owain Doull, pushed the pace and established a solid lead. Into the finish Lawless and Owain Doull, were playing cat and mouse, but Lawless has the measure of Doull and pipped him on the finish straight in front of the electric crowd.
Lawless, who raced aggressively throughout, set the fastest lap of the day on the new 1.5km Nocturne course. His win makes it two consecutive wins for JLT Condor presented by Condor.
Alice Barnes, continuing on the Barnes legacy, won the JLT Elite Women’s Criterium in extremely convincing fashion, leading the pack from the 6th lap, over one minute ahead of National Champion, Nicola Juniper and Claire Rose.
London fans were treated to 9 races across the day. The Santander Cycle Hire Race saw competitors running the last 300m of the course after docking the hire bike on the finish straight.
Broadcast live on Eurosport across 53 countries, The MR PORTER London Nocturne lived up to its expectation in its new home in the Square Mile.
