The original ‘Man in Black’, Dean Downing, will rejoin John Herety’s team for 2016
The now retired rider from Yorkshire will return to the team that saw him win several titles riding for the squad. Charismatic Downing was the first signing the team made when it was formed in 2007 and was one of the longest serving members.
“We’ve brought Dean on board for his proven expertise in Britain’s domestic races. He’ll be an asset to the team during the hectic Tour Series. He’s one of the few riders to have won the series and has several individual victories to his name“, explained Team Manager, John Herety.
Downing will join the squad as an assistant manager and oversee UK races, while Herety and performance manager, Tim Kennaugh, will manage the team’s international schedule.
“I’m really excited to be working with John and the team again. The guys at JLT are great and it’s great to be at a team supported by a sponsor who is so behind cycling in every aspect and Condor’s passion for cycling goes with out saying. Excited is probably an understatement“, explained the former National Champion. “My duties begin at the training camp in Southern Europe, while John is at races in Australia.“
JLT Condor presented by Mavic will begin the season from 1 January racing the Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic. Eight riders from the team will be based in Melbourne from mid-December until February and will take part in races in the Southern Hemisphere.
Downing joins a bolstered roster which includes double Olympian, Ed Clancy, current team pursuit World Champion, Alex Frame, and former National Road Champion, Russ Downing.
